Women’s Employment Outreach is Seeking Volunteer Support Committee Members

Want to become involved in a women's organization? A feminist collective providing employment support to women is looking for Volunteer Board/ Support Committee members. We require women who are feminist, and who are committed to attending monthly meetings and participating in additional activities in keeping with their strengths.

Support Committee Member’s Objective:

To become a member of the Women’s Employment and Advocacy Society (WEAS) and to provide support to staff in the overall management of Women’s Employment Outreach, the organization that WEAS sponsors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To attend monthly Support Committee meetings
• To Chair Support Committee meetings and take minutes on a rotating basis
• To commit several hours per month to provide ongoing support to staff in particular skill/ strength areas as outlined in ‘Qualifications’
• To review Annual Contract Proposals and provide feedback to staff
• To provide advocacy and leadership regarding funding and issues that impact the women’s community
• To attend Annual Contract Signings, Activity Monitors, and Financial Monitors
• To participate in a bi-annual Strategic Planning Session
• To participate in ad-hoc committees as required
• To assist in the research and development of policies
• To hold signing authority and to be available to sign cheques and other documentation as required

WEAS/WEO Philosophy

In selecting Support Committee Members we look for women who possess:

• A feminist/womanist perspective and a woman-centered approach to work and issues that affect women
• An interest in working within a collective/consensus decision-making environment
• An interest in working with the community and with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• A commitment to supporting lesbian rights and a pro-choice position

Qualifications

We are seeking women who can uphold the WEAS/WEO philosophy as described above, and who can support WEO by bringing knowledge/skills/strength in at least one of the following areas:

• Law/the legal system
• Human Relations
• Finances
• Community
• Publicity/Promotion/Communication
• Administration
